METHODOLOGICAL INFORMATION

1. Description of the methods for collection/generation of data: 

- Sheet "Control": Lactuca sativa var. "Maravilla de Verano" seeds were incubated in petri dishes for 48h in distilled water and the length of the radicle was measured (mm). We distinguish two different batches of seeds: 6562 and 6605.
- Sheet "Treatments": Lactuca sativa var. "Maravilla de Verano" seeds were incubated in petri dishes for 48h in different extracts and the length of the radicle was measured (mm). The different extracts differs on the origin of the algae (upwelling / fixed at rocks), Temperature of extraction (45ºC / 100º), addition of Na2CO3 along the extraction (Yes / No) and concentration of liophilyzed biomass in the extract (0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%, 10%, 20%).

- We used ImageJ to extract the length measurements manually from the pictures.
